Meet Jerry

"As Mayor, I'll be your champion. I'll be a champion for all of Fresno."

Jerry Dyer has spent his career serving the residents of Fresno to keep this city safe. Now, he’s ready to tap into our potential and deliver a unified, thriving city.

Raised in Fresno County and a graduate of Fowler High School, Jerry rose through the ranks of the Fresno Police Department – serving as a lieutenant, captain, deputy chief and as the department’s first assistant chief of police.

Dyer was appointed Chief of Police on August 1, 2001, and is the longest tenured police chief in the history of the Fresno Police Department with 18 years of service in position.

Jerry holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from California State University, Fresno, and a Master’s Degree in Management from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Jerry is a graduate of the California Command College, where his peers recognized him as the Most Inspirational Student. He also attended the 33rd Session of the FBI National Executive Institute. In 2008, Chief Dyer served as the president of the California Police Chief’s Association, which is comprised of 338 police chiefs.

Jerry has been married to his wife Diane for 38 years and has two children and four grandchildren.
